Texas Instruments HiRel Defense and Aerospace (TI HiRel) is a division of the Semiconductor Group, headquartered in Sherman, Texas. TI formed this group in 1978 in response to the unique requirements of the military market segment. In early 1995, the Department of Defense (DoD) formally recognized the Qualified Manufacturer's List (QML) as a COTS performance-based specification. TI was one of the first semiconductor manufacturers certified to the QML. QML is both a process and a performance-based methodology that embodies the use of best-commercial practices, not only in manufacturing, but also throughout the entire business process.
