Control Expert - Todd Solak

Whether you are redesigning power tools with more reliable sensorless control, white goods with higher energy-efficient motors or multi-phase industrial motors with higher resolution and precision, there is a TI DSP embedded controller for you.

TI’s TMS320C2000™ DSP platform provides the ultimate combination of MCU peripheral integration, C efficiency and ease-of-use with the performance of TI DSPs. Your design will have more features, provide better feedback and precision and cost less with TI DSPs.

Q1. Why should I consider digital signal processing (DSPs) for embedded control?

A1. TI's control-optimized DSPs combine computational processing power with integrated control and analog peripherals. This makes them ideal for applications that require new and enhanced features and functionality like smoother starts, lower noise and higher energy efficiency. By offering a single-chip solution that handles both the control processing and system host requirements, system complexity and cost are reduced.

When you combine the processing power, high integration and flexibility with their low price points and ease of use, TI's embedded control solutions make a compelling alternative to traditional microcontrollers.

Q2. What hardware/software tools can I use to get my control design to market quickly?

A2. TI's extensive application software and signal processing libraries cover almost any type of motor, including single, three-phase, sensored, sensorless and AC induction (ACI) motors. These standardized sets of software modules can be seamlessly integrated to serve as fundamental building blocks for digital control algorithm development, enabling the building of complete motor control applications without writing optimized assembly language routines.

TI also offers the industry's most comprehensive software and hardware solutions for control designers. A variety of development boards are available from TI and TI's Third Party Network. These include development boards, evaluation modules, hardware/software bundles and DSP Starter Kits (DSKs) designed to accelerate the application design process from concept through production.
