Comparing
Media Codecs for Video Content –
Download Today
Digital video is being adopted in an
increasing range of applications such
as video telephony, security/surveillance,
digital television and more. Video compression
is an essential enabler for these applications,
and an increasing number of video codec
industry standards and proprietary algorithms
are available to make it practical to
store and transmit video in digital
form. This paper provides an overview
of the different compression standards
and highlights where they are best suited.
Download today and also explore the
compression rules of thumb for different
standards and the corresponding performance
requirements for real-time implementations.
Codecs highlighted in this white paper:
| • JPEG |
| • JPEG2000 |
| • H.263 |
| • H.264 |
| • MPEG-2 |
| • MPEG-4 |
| • Windows
Media Version 9 |

TI Brings Hollywood to Mobile Phones
Today consumers are eager for the latest and
greatest applications on their mobile phones.
From still cameras to PDA capabilities, Internet
access, quality 3D video games and more, mobile
phones are becoming pocket-sized entertainment
centers. Next up, digital broadcast television.
TI will make this possible with its single-chip
solution using TI’s 90-nanometer process
technology. This solution will also increase
battery life, use less board space and reduce
cost. Download this presentation for more
details.

Video
Compression Webcast – View Archive Today
Due to the tremendous response we received
at the live broadcast, we have archived this
presentation in order to make it readily available.
View this webcast and explore how codecs differ
in terms of the tradeoffs they make between
compression rates, encode/decode processing
requirements and key system factors such as
latency. This one-hour presentation provides
a brief introduction to how video compression
is achieved and explores why advanced video
codecs and specific codec profiles are better
suited for specific applications. View the
webcast now.

Signal
Processing Symposium – Call for Papers
The European DSP Education and Research Symposium
(EDERS), part of the TI Developer Conference
(TIDC), gathers together DSP educators, researchers
and third-party developers from around the
world to discuss their experiences with TMS320™
digital signal processors in various educational
and research activities. Sponsored by TI and
co-sponsored by the IEEE Region 8, UK&RI
and the German Signal Processing Chapter,
EDERS2006 will be held in Munich on April
4, 2006. The symposium’s research stream
will focus on critical implementation details
for a range of applications, including real-time
communications, audio, video, control and
more. For more information please contact
