SMS/MMS Phone

SMS/MMS Phones are regular home phones connecting to the PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network), which also are capable of connecting to mobile networks to exchange SMS and MMS messages with mobile phones by connecting to SMS/MMS gateway server via regular phone lines.

The Core Subsystems include:

  • DSP/OMAP
    - Uploading and downloading SMS and MMS messages (Modem), playing audio (G.726 ADPCM), processing application code (JPEG Decoder, etc.), and making regular phone calls (Tone Generation, Echo Cancellation, Caller ID).

  • Network Interface
    - Transmit and receive voice/data packets from internet.

  • Memory
    - stores executing code and data/parameters.

  • Peripheral Interface
    - allows the user to control different phone functions and transfer data to external memory by keypads or touchscreen.

  • Voice CODEC
    - interfaces with the handset microphone and speaker, to digitize the base-band voice signal. The digital voice data is processed by the DSP.

  • Power Conversion
    - converts the input power from the AC adaptor to run various functional blocks.
