Design ConsiderationsNEW! System block diagram includes the new TCI6485 and TCI6489, which offer complete solutions for HSPA residential and enterprise femto applications. Femtocell base stations are devices that enhance the wireless experience in the home or office, bringing higher data rates, better coverage and lower cost plans to the user. In typical femtocell network architecture, mobile phone users in the home or enterprise connect to the femto base station. This femto base station uses the existing landline connection (usually DSL, cable or fiber) to connect to the wireless operator's network. These femto base stations must co-exist within the macro base station area and provide powerful performance, while coping with challenges of interference, power control and hand off with the macro network. TI offers a family of DSPs to help enterprise and residential femtocell manufacturers and service providers reduce development time and deliver new products to market fast. Optimized for residential femtocell applications, the TCI6485 includes two high performance 850 MHz C64x+™ DSP cores, delivering 1.7 GHz of overall performance and supporting eight users on a single WCDMA carrier. The TCI6485 is capable of running both PHY and MAC functions on each of the two cores, and includes a third party software stack for WCDMA that supports all Layer 1, 2 and 3 processing. TI also offers the TCI6489 DSP platform including three 850 MHz DSPs cores and providing the additional processing power required for enterprise femtocell base station applications. With more than 2.55 GHz of overall performance, the TCI6489 also runs a complete Layer 1, 2 and 3 software stack and can support up to 32 users on a single WCDMA carrier. TI's family of multicore femtocell solutions includes a full portfolio of complementary analog products, including data converters, RF products, power management, clocks and amplifiers. TI also provides third party software from mimoON and Continuous Computing, enabling OEMs to quickly develop femtocell products to provide increased wireless connectivity for streaming video files, interactive gaming, music sharing and other bandwidth-intense multimedia tasks.
