Description

This reference design is for two synchronous buck converters using the TPS40051 controller. Each converter provides +5V @ 15A from a 10 to 26V input. The TPS40051 uses voltage feed-forward to simplify loop compensation and good line regulation. The TPS40051 allows the converters to be synchronized. The lower gate drive signal from converter #2 is inverted and used as the clock for converter #1. As a result, the converters are operating out of phase which reduces the input ripple current and lowers EMI.
