´C67x EVM Software (sold seperatly with CCS)
Complementing the ´C6000 platform´s hardware is equally groundbreaking software. The environment is founded on the generation´s highly advanced C compiler and TI´s revolutionary Assembly Optimizer that give hardware designers a highly efficient, user-centered way to extract the VelociTI architecture´s code parallelisms, which makes the platform so powerful. The combination of the highly advanced C compiler optimization and the industry´s first DSP Assembly Optimizer allows designers to quickly tune code, yielding fast time-to-market with powerful and differentiated products.
In addition to code generation tools, the ´C62x EVM bundle includes other system host and DSP support software.
- Board configuration utility - This software is used to reset and configure the board.
- EVM confidence test utility - Used to test the basic operation of the board, this utility verifies the correct hardware and software installation.
- ´C62x COFF loader utility - This utility is used to load and execute ´C62x software on the board.
- EVM Win32 DLL - The Win32 host libraries include both Windows and Windows NT versions that provide software access for control and communication with the EVM board.
- Example source code - The EVM includes example code that illustrates how to use the host Win32 dynamic link library (DLL) functions.
The ´C67x EVM bundle takes the high performance of ´C67x hardware and software and wrap it into an easy-to-use kit, allowing designers to experience the simplicity and power of the industry´s most advanced DSPs and DSP development environment. At the same time, it enables them to begin creating designs to revolutionize their own industries.
´C67x EVM Support Files
Texas Instruments makes it easier than ever for system designers to begin development with the world´s most powerful DSPs. The TMS320C67X EVM bundle (bundled with CCS) from Texas Instruments provide a comprehensive development platform with Code Composer Studio
integrated development environment that allows designers to run application software on target ´C62x/C67x hardware, providing a platform to benchmark their system. The EVMs save designers the time and expense of building their own application test board -- in turn allowing them to get powerful 21st century ´C62x/C67x-based designs to market quickly.
Part of an extensive range of TI and third-party development resources, the ´C67x EVM is a combination of state-of-the-art hardware and software that gives designers the tools to build the world´s most advanced DSP applications. Designers around the world are already using ´C6000 DSPs to radically redefine the performance and integration of multichannel communications systems. The ´C67x EVM accelerates this task by allowing them to immediately run ´C62x/C67x application code to determine if it meets their design needs. The EVM´s hardware design information and software application programming interfaces (APIs) also provide a reference design that simplifies ´C62x/C67x-based hardware and software development.

Features
Key Features of the C67x:
With the world´s most powerful DSPs, the C67x EVM features the fixed-point or floating-point TMS320C6701. Using TI´s revolutionary VelociTI? advanced Very Long Instruction Word (VLIW) DSP architecture, the device represents breakthrough technology that enables multichannel, multifunction and advanced applications such as:
- Pooled modems
- Wireless base stations
- Remote access servers (RAS)
- Digital subscriber loop (xDSL) systems
- Cable modems
- Multichannel telephony systems
- Imaging applications
- Voice recognition systems
- 3-D Graphic applications
For these complex applications, the ´C62x/C67x DSPs offer the ability to replace multiple current generation DSPs and slash system costs in half.
The full-sized EVM board is designed to be used in a PCI expansion slot. It can be used on the tabletop with an external power supply and XDS510 or XDS510WS emulator, which are not included in the kit. Functionally, the board allows high-speed verification of ´C6000 code with the included full version of Code Composer Studio. The EVM board features a PCI interface, SBSRAM and SDRAM, a 16-bit audio codec and embedded JTAG emulation support. Connectors on the EVM board provide a DSP external memory interface (EMIF) and peripheral signals that enable it to be expanded with custom or third-party daughterboards.
In addition to providing a reference for interfacing the ´C6701 to various types of memories and peripherals, the design also addresses power, clock, JTAG and PCI controller interfaces.
EVM Hardware
The EVM hardware is divided into 12 different sections:
- C6000 DSPs - The C62x EVM is based on the C6201 DSP, which operates up to 1600 MIPS with a CPU clock rate of 200 MHz. The EVM board uses a 200 MHz version of the C62x CPU.
- DSP clock - The EVM has two different onboard clock sources (33.25 MHz and 40 MHz for the ´C62x EVM) and two clock modes (multiply-by-1 and multiply-by-4), enabling the DSP to operate at four different clock rates.
- External memory - The ´C62x EVM provides one bank of 64K x 32, 133-MHz SBSRAM and two banks of 1M x 32, 100-MHz SDRAM. Additional asynchronous memory can be added with a daughterboard using the expansion memory interface. All external memory devices are byte-addressable.
- Expansion interfaces - The ´C62x EVM has external memory interface and external peripheral interface connectors that enable the use of custom or third-party daughterboards.
- PCI interface - The ´C62x EVM includes a PCI Local Bus Revision 2.1-compliant interface that enables host access to the onboard JTAG controller, DSP host port interface (HPI) and board status/control registers.
- JTAG emulation - JTAG emulation support is provided using an onboard test bus controller (TBC) as well as a header to support an external XDS510 emulator.
- Programmable logic - The ´C67x EVM CPLD provides the board´s glue logic and control/status registers.
- Audio interface - The EVMs include a CD-quality, 16-bit audio interface with stereo microphone and line-level inputs and a stereo line-level output.
- Power supplies - The EVMs use voltage regulators to provide 1.8V (´C62x) for the DSP core; 3.3 V for the ´C6201 I/O memories, CPLD and debuggers; and 5 V for audio components.
- Voltage supervision and reset control - The EVM uses a voltage supervisor to monitor the board´s voltages and provide a board reset signal.
- LED indicators - Three LED indicators are provided -- one green LED to indicate that power is on, and two LEDs for user-defined status.
- User options - The EVM supports user-defined control via 12 onboard DIP switches or with direct control by host software via the PCI bus
