Optimizing the Linux Kernel, Linux File System and DSP Server

Speaker: Juan Gonzales and Brijesh Singh - Texas Instruments

Objective: Optimizing the Linux Kernel, Linux File System and DSP Server for a Small Memory Footprint on the TMS320DM6446 DVEVM. The DM6446 Digital Video Evaluation module includes a rich set of peripheral sand bountiful memory resources customers can use to evaluate the DM6446 platform for their designs; however, it is more than likely that customers will need only a subset of these resources in their final product. In this presentation, we’ll demonstrate how to optimize the Linux kernel, Linux file system and DSP server to arrive at a more realistic, smaller memory footprint system. To achieve this, we will show how you can take an existing JPEG demo running on the full blown DM6446 EVEVM with 256 MB of DDR2 and a hard disk drive (HDD) and optimize it to run on 64MB of DDR and without the HDD.
