The World’s First 90nm DSPs Running at 1GHz are Now in Volume Production
Texas Instruments raises the standard for high performance as the first company to reach volume production with 1GHz DSPs. In addition, these are the first DSPs manufactured on a 90 nanometer (nm) process technology node. Already shipping to more than 70 customers, the TMS320C6414T, TMS320C6415T and TMS320C6416T DSPs offer higher performance at a lower cost.
Performance is key for faster streaming, richer content and anywhere, always-on connectivity, enabling a true digital lifestyle. And, with 1 GHz performance, a new spectrum of applications are now possible ranging from complex vision systems that can make decisions to self navigating, autonomous vehicles to high-quality medical imaging. Existing high-performance applications, such as wireless base stations, IP-based video, high-speed broadband networking, medical diagnostics and radar, benefit from increased bandwidth and channel capacity.
The 90 Nanometer Advantage for Higher Performance and Lower Cost
Moving to TI’s advanced 90 nm CMOS process technology allows creation of faster and smaller chips than ever before. Moving transistors closer together increases speed of operation, as well as allows a higher density of on-chip memory to increase application efficiency. In addition, 90 nm cuts the manufacturing cost by reducing the die size and delivering close to 50% more die per wafer. This 90 nm process technology will also ease integration of system-on-a-chip architectures by streamlining communication between the DSP, memory, peripherals, RISC processors and analog components.
A wide range of applications will benefit from increased performance.
