TI extends remote control portfolio with new Bluetooth® Smart solution
CC2541The CC2541DK-RC solution leverages TI’s expertise in ZigBee RF4CE for the emerging Bluetooth Smart remote control market using TI’s CC2541 SoC and BLE-Stack™ software. As a technology, Bluetooth low energy allows for remotes with mouse-like pointing and keyboard functionality as well as gesture-, touch- and motion-based input controls so users can take their viewing and gaming experience to the next level. The Bluetooth low energy solution builds upon an already successful remote control family based on TI’s ZigBee® RF4CE technology. Now, manufacturers have the ability to complement their ZigBee RF4CE remote designs with Bluetooth low energy technology easily, due to pin-to-pin and SoC digital domain compatibility between TI’sCC253x ZigBee technology and the CC254x Bluetooth low energy SoC. For example, valuable research and development time used to port IR database, sensor fusion algorithms, drivers and other IP can be reused between the two technologies. Additionally, the BLE-Stack™ 1.3.1 release contains the advanced remote sample application software in addition to general enhancements to the stack software.

NEW! CC2538 ZigBee® SoC now available
CC2538 TI’s CC2538 system-on-chip simplifies the development of ZigBee wireless connectivity-enabled smart energy infrastructure, home and building automation and intelligent lighting gateways. As the industry’s most integrated ZigBee solution with an ARM® Cortex™-M3 MCU, memory and hardware accelerators on one piece of silicon, the CC2538 is a cost efficient and scalable solution for manufacturers. This solution supports ZigBee PRO, ZigBee Smart Energy and ZigBee Home Automation and lighting standards to deliver interoperability with existing and future ZigBee products. For maximum flexibility, the CC2538 also supports IP standards-based development using IEEE 802.15.4 and 6LoWPAN IPv6 networks. It is available through authorized distributors for under $3.00 in high volumes and is part of TI’s free sample program.

Additionally, the CC2538 comes with tools and software to help with development including:
  • The development kit (CC2538DK) provides a complete development platform and is available at the TI eStore
  • High-performance CC2538 evaluation modules (CC2538EMK) for software development and peripherals
  • The boards are compatible with TI’s SmartRF™ Studio to run RF performance tests
Unlocking doors with TI Bluetooth low energy
Kwikset, a leader in innovative residential door hardware, recently announced their new smart door lock, Kevo, which uses TI’s CC2541 Bluetooth low energy solution. Kevo allows users to unlock their door with just a smartphone or a keyfob. Due to the Bluetooth low energy inside, all homeowners have to do is walk up to the door, touch the lock and walk in, never removing their phone from their pocket.
CC2530 BoosterPack kit from Anaren AIR team eases ZigBee® development using MSP430™ or Tiva-C LaunchPad kits.
CC2530 BoosterPack kit The Anaren Integrated Radio (AIR) module team has developed an easy-to-use, AIR-equipped CC2530 BoosterPack kit – that works in concert with TI’s MSP430™ and Tiva-C (aka: Stellaris®) LaunchPad kits. Featuring three AIR-equipped BoosterPack boards (based on TI’s CC2530 low-power RF chip for ZigBee), the kit lets you set up a basic ZigBee network and begin designing your application fast. Each AIR module is pre-loaded with Anaren’s AIR-ZNP firmware (based on TI’s CC2530 Z-Stack™); 30+ commonly used ZigBee code examples are included to save programming time; and a step-by-step quick-start-guide is also in the box.
