The portfolio of scalable and flexible medium-density VoIP gateways from TI provides a range of solutions from residential small office/home office (SOHO) and up to enterprise applications. These medium-density solutions have been optimized for the most critical performance criteria, including area-per-channel, power consumption, architecture and cost. As the VoIP supplier with the largest installation base, TI has been able to continually perfect and improve its gateways to meet the needs of the entire marketplace. VoIP gateway solutions are available in two platform architectures to meet the needs of all gateway platforms. TI offers several highly integrated solutions based on the C55x™ DSP core and several single-core C64x+ DSP-based solutions. Combined with TI’s Telogy Software™, these solutions offer many levels of channel densities, from four to 128 G.711 channels or four to 64 channels of compressed voice with SRTP. Advanced DSP processing enables superior voice quality, functionality and scalability to deliver market-leading products with lower system costs.

The medium-density gateway systems cover all four major mid-range segments of the VoIP marketplace, including the following:

  • Residential Terminal Adapters
    • Low-end solution
    • Typically residential VoIP service
    • Single packet network interface (Ethernet)
    • Connects to an external cable or DSL modem

  • Residential Gateways
    • Two or more packet network interfaces
    • Provides routing of data packets between LAN and WAN
    • Connects to an external cable or DSL modem

  • Integrated Access Devices
    • Two or more packet network interfaces
    • Provides routing of data packets between LAN and WAN
    • Integrates cable or DSL modem functionality

  • Enterprise Gateways (IP PBX, Switch/Router, Media Access Gateway)
    • Typically provides 8-60 channels per card
    • Includes traditional gateway components geared toward VoIP
