Low Power and Energy Efficient Processors

TI’s OMAP™ platform delivers a variety of high performance applications processors with fast, portable power and a robust support network with a software portfolio which includes open source. The complete platform allows for differentiation and rapid development of applications from multimedia-enhanced devices to general purpose computer applications that require Linux or Windows CE class operating systems.

Low Power and Energy Efficient Processors

OMAP35x Applications Processors

The OMAP35x platform is based on the market’s first broad offering of the ARM® Cortex™-A8 core to provide an unprecedented combination of laptop-like performance at handheld power levels in a single chip. With more than four times the processing power of today’s 300MHz ARM9 devices, the superscalar 600 MHz Cortex-A8 core is integrated into four OMAP35x applications processors. These processors offer a variety of combinations of the Cortex-A8 core, multimedia-rich peripherals, OpenGL® ES 2.0 compatible graphics engine, video accelerators and TMS320C64x+™ DSP core. All four devices are available today. The modular and extensible OMAP35x Evaluation Module (EVM) provides all the components needed to start developing today including a Linux board support package based on the 2.6.22 kernel.

OMAP-L1x Applications Processors

Multimedia performance and low power with OMAP-L1x applications processors -Enabling developers to integrate feature-rich GUIs into their portable designs, the new OMAP-L1x product line includes ARM9 and ARM9-plus-DSP architectures. The six new devices will offer a variety of peripherals for networking, and will run Linux or the DSP/BIOS™ real-time kernel for operating system flexibility. The product line is also pin-for-pin compatible with various devices in the TMS320C674x product line. Power consumption ranges from 8 mW in standby to 400 mW total power. Devices will be available Q4 08.
