Interfacing the TLV5639 DAC to the TMS320C31 DSP

This application report discusses the implementation of an interface between the TLV5639 DAC and the TMS320C31 DSP. The TLV5619-5639EVM is used to demonstrate the complete circuit implementation. This EVM is the evaluation module for the TLV5639 and the TLV561 DACs that take care of all necessary signal manipulation for the control signals of the DAC. The TLV5639 is a 12-bit DAC with a microprocessor-compatible parallel interface designed for many applications, such as digital servo control loops, digital offset and gain adjustment, industrial process control, machine- and motion-control devices, and mass storage devices, to name a few. The software application included in this report provides the DAC data to create a sawtooth output of the DAC. The complete system to demonstrate the functionality of the TLV5639 DAC includes the TMS320C31 DSP Starter Kit, TLV5619-5639EVM, XDS510 emulator and cable, a host PC, power supply, and a custom-built interfacing cable for the DSP and the DAC. The software interface is written in assembly language using the code composer for the C3X DSP.
