PC Magazine's annual Technology Breakthroughs! TI OMAP3430

November 2006: "What's the next generation of cell phones going to look like? This. Texas Instruments took an ARM Cortex-A8 processor—the highest performing (and most power-efficient) RISC chip ARM has ever created—and wrapped it in multimedia goodness to create the first system-on-a-chip in its new OMAP 3 family..." Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: LoCosto

Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: "LoCosto" single-chip mobile phone platform
Category: Most Innovative Baseband and/or Applications Processor

November 2006: "While there are other competing solutions, SI's recent analysis of Texas Instruments' "LoCosto" single chip solution revealed that the device is manufactured using TI's DRP™ technology and proven 90nm process lithography. The resulting "LoCosto" solution provides a considerably smaller die size whilst enabling additional features, a key necessity for mobile applications. The die size of the LoCosto solution in 90nm with its additional features measures about 25% smaller than that of the Infineon E-Goldradio, which was designed using a 130nm process. The die size savings allows TI to produce more die per wafer, giving it a sustainable competitive advantage in the marketplace...(view the entire release)

Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: BRF6300

Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: BRF6300 BlueLink™ Bluetooth® v2.0 + Enhanced Data Rate Single-Chip Solution
Category: Most Innovative RF IC

June 2006: "TI's BlueLink 5.0 Bluetooth solution integrates the baseband, RF transceiver, ARM7 TDMI, memory, and power management onto one piece of silicon, reducing the external passive components required by nearly half over previous generations, while achieving an impressive die size of 10mm2, as measured by SI. The BRF6300 solution leverages TI's 90nm advanced CMOS process and DRP™ digital RF technology and also provides the foundation to realize Software Defined Radio (SDR)...(view the entire release)

2005

Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: OMAP2420 Applications Processor

Semiconductor INSIGHT Award: OMAP2420 Applications Processor
Category: Most Innovative System On Chip

November 2005: Recent SI analysis of TI's OMAP2420 processor has shown reduced power consumption over previous generations. Using TI's 90nm process technology, the OMAP2420 processor has a slightly increased die size over the OMAP1710 processor, but utilizes innovative power management techniques that result in zero leakage levels in inactive blocks. "Each processing engine can be individually turned off when not in use," said Keyes. "This conserves power for functions that are not being used and extends the battery life."...(view the entire release)
