DALLAS (Sept. 16, 2004) – Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE: TXN) today
announced that Carrie S. Cox, executive vice president and president of
the Global Pharmaceutical Business at Schering-Plough Corporation, has
been elected to TI’s Board of Directors.
With more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry,
Ms. Cox, 47, heads the company’s prescription pharmaceutical business
worldwide. She joined Schering-Plough in May 2003, after holding similar
responsibilities at Pharmacia Corporation prior to its merger with Pfizer
Inc. earlier that same year. Cox joined Pharmacia’s predecessor
company, Pharmacia & Upjohn, in 1997 as a member of top management
and was a strong contributor to that company’s dramatic turnaround.
In 2001, she was named to Fortune magazine’s list of the
50 Most Powerful Women in Business.
“Throughout her career, Carrie has shown her ability to successfully
manage change while maintaining a strategic view with the customer at
the center. She exhibits that rare combination of operational and marketing
savvy,” said TI Chairman Tom Engibous. “Her years of operational
experience, her ability to create and manage a global team to take a company
to the next level and her customer focus will be of tremendous benefit
to TI and the deliberations of its Board.” |
Earlier in her career, Ms. Cox served as vice president of Women’s
Health Care at Wyeth-Ayerst, where she worked for seven years. Prior to
that, she held a variety of positions in market research, sales and product
management during a 10-year career with Sandoz Pharmaceuticals.
A registered pharmacist, Ms. Cox earned a bachelor’s of science
degree in 1981 from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.
