Fortune Magazine Names Texas Instruments to its 2005 100 Best Companies to Work For List

DALLAS (January 10, 2005) – Texas Instruments (TI) today announced its inclusion on FORTUNE’s 100 Best Companies To Work For list. This is the sixth year TI has made the list, which is largely defined by an employee survey.

“We are proud that for the sixth year, TI employees have ranked Texas Instruments as one of the best places to work,” said Tegwin Pulley, vice president, Workforce Development, Diversity and Worklife Strategies. “A ranking such as the FORTUNE “100 Best Companies to Work For,” as well as other similar rankings at our non-U.S. sites, is an encouraging indicator that we are earning the commitment of the people of TI in realizing both their potential and TI’s potential.”

TI was also mentioned in FORTUNE as one of nine companies that have a “Best 401(k) Match,” offering a 100 percent match up to four percent of total compensation. In addition to excellent financial incentives, the company offers employees ancillary benefits such as flexible work options, an employee trip reduction program, an on-site concierge, a day-spa, elder care, a summer camp for kids and even special interest clubs such as a flying club.

TI is one of three companies in the Dallas area to make the list, and one of ten in Texas, ranking at 86, up from 91 in 2004.

“The 100 Best Companies to Work For” list is compiled for FORTUNE by Robert Levering and Milton Moskowitz of the Great Place to Work Institute in San Francisco, based on two criteria: an evaluation of the policies and culture of each company, and the opinions of the company’s employees. The latter is given more weight; two-thirds of the total score comes from employee responses to a 57-question survey which goes to a minimum of 350 randomly selected employees from each company. It asks about things such as attitudes towards management, job satisfaction, and camaraderie within the organization. The remaining one-third of the score is based on an evaluation of each company’s demographic makeup, pay and benefits programs, and culture. Companies are scored in four areas: credibility (communication to employees), respect (opportunities and benefits), fairness (compensation, diversity), and pride/camaraderie (philanthropy, celebrations).
